Parents / Spectators Code of Conduct

bulletRemember that children play sport for their own enjoyment, not their parents'.

bulletEncourage children to play - do not force them.

bulletFocus on the children's efforts rather than winning or losing.

bulletShow respect for your teams opponents. Without them there would be no game.

bulletProvide positive feedback both in training and during the game.

bulletRemember that persistent, negative messages will adversely affect the players and the referee's performance.

bulletAlways support Tameside Area Basketball Club in their efforts to eradicate coarse and abusive behaviour from the game.

bulletNever verbally abuse or harass players, match officials, fellow spectators or coaches.

bulletNever ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake. Positive comments are motivational.

bulletCondemn the use of violence in any form, be it be spectators, coaches, officials or players.

bulletRemember young people learn much by example.

bulletAlways show appreciation of good play by ALL players, both from your club and the opposition. Applaud good performance and efforts from each team. Congratulate ALL participants upon their performance regardless of the game's outcome.

bulletRespect decisions made by match officials and encourage the players to do likewise.

bulletEncourage players to follow the rules and the official's decisions.

bulletRemember that referees, table officials and coaches are all volunteers who are providing an opportunity for youngsters to play basketball.

Parents that are considered to be in breach of the above standards may be requested to attend a committee panel to formally discuss any concerns.
